Christmas Bird Counts (CBC)

December 19, 2022

For one day a year, dozens of local bird watchers and nature enthusiasts count birds as part of a nation-wide conservation effort. These counts happen across North America and have been for nearly a hundred years in some areas. In Québec, Bird Protection Quebec (BPQ) organizes two Christmas Bird Counts each year, one for the Montreal region and one for the Hudson region.

This year will be Hudson’s 82nd annual bird count which covers many regions including; Coteau-du-Lac, Saint-Lazare, Hudson, Les Cèdres, St-Clet, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Pincourt, Terrace-Vaudreuil and a small part of Oka.

We would like to remind everyone that this year’s Christmas bird count will take place on Friday December 30. It would be greatly appreciated if you could ensure that your bird feeders are full in preparation for this event to allow us to observe the greatest number of birds possible.

We would also like to inform you that many participants, some in cars and others on foot, will be carrying binoculars, checklists, and field guides looking for birds in local areas and at backyard bird feeders. If you happen to come across some of our volunteers, do not hesitate to go out and say “hello” and share with them any cool bird stories or let them know of a great bird species that you may have observed in your area.
