Construction and renovation
It is mandatory to obtain a permit or certificate of authorization before beginning renovation, construction, expansion or demolition work.
Requesting a permit online
Permits can be requested online for projects over $15,000.
Exceptions
No permit or certificate of authorization is required for:
- The conversion, renovation, repair or maintenance of a building that costs $15,000 or less without altering the foundation or structure*;
- Repairing or replacing roofing without altering the structure or insulation materials*;
* However, a permit is required for work targeted by the Architectural Implementation and Integration Plan By-law.
Even if your project does not require authorization, you must ensure that it is compliant.
