Together, let's adopt good winter practices

November 21, 2023

As the snow brings with it additional challenges, here's a reminder of the safety instructions and actions to take in winter. Everyone's cooperation makes snow clearing, waste collection and emergency response easier.

For efficient and safe snow removal

Please do not leave any objects (collection bins, basketball hoop, field hockey goal or snow stake) within 1.5 metres (5 feet) of the road, to avoid interfering with snow removal operations.

Teams give priority to main arteries and then to residential neighbourhoods. Since crews are unable to lift shovel at each of 8,000 or more entrances, residents are responsible for removing the snow that has accumulated in their driveways after the plow passes. Please do not push snow onto public roads.

Bins, bulky items and other waste 1.5 metres from the street

Place your bins, bulky items and Christmas tree in your driveway (on the left-hand side when facing your house), 1.5 metres (5 feet) from the street. Among other things, this position will prevent your bin from being knocked over by snow removal trucks as they pass along your street.

Sidewalks must also be kept clear at all times. Owners, tenants or merchants must place bins, bulky items and other waste on their property. If you are unable to do so, please contact us at 450 424-8000, ext. 250.

Visible fire hydrant

In order not to restrict their access, use, maintenance and snow removal, it is prohibited to cover them, hinder their visibility or transform their appearance.

No overnight parking

Parking is prohibited on all public roads and roadways throughout the Saint-Lazare territory from November 15, 2023 to April 1, 2024, between midnight and 7 a.m., unless otherwise indicated.

Emergency vehicles, snow removal trucks and collection trucks must be able to circulate at all times. It is forbidden to park in such a way as to impede their movement.

Potholes and damage to your property

To report a pothole, damage to your property or to a collection bin, following an intervention by the city or a contractor hired by the city, please fill out an online request: https://ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/en/services-to-residents/request-and-complaint-form or leave a message at 450 424-8000, ext. 250.

Snow forts, igloos and sledding hills

Snow-clearing operators sit high up in their cabins. Their visibility is greatly reduced in regular weather, and even more so during snowstorms. Don't let your children play at the side of the road. They can be hit by motorists and snow-clearing vehicles, and even be buried under the snow.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a good winter!
