Post Ice Storm Management
The storm is over. It's time to clean up!
Although the outages are not yet a thing of the past, we invite you to prepare for what comes next.
Branches - cutting, pruning and collection
Cutting and pruning
There is a good chance that your property is covered with branches that have fallen during the storm, or that some branches seem to be in a dangerous position the safety of your home, yourself and your loved ones. We remind you to be very careful in such situations:
- Before cutting a branch, make sure there are no electrical wires around. Hydro-Quebec is here to help you. You can get information on this page: https://www.hydroquebec.com/safety/distribution-lines/avoid-accidents-pruning-felling-trees.html ;
- Don't take unnecessary risks: if the problematic branch is not easily accessible, let the professionals take care of it and contact 3-1-1 ;
- If you think you can safely do the work yourself, make sure to take pictures before cutting the branches, in case of verification with Ville de Saint-Lazare.
Collection
The collection of branches will begin on Monday, April 17, 2023. You will understand that until then, our crews have a lot to do. We ask that, until the collection begins, you follow the instructions mentioned on the Branches - Guidelines page.
In the current situation, it is impossible to predict exactly when the collection team will be in your area - some areas may take longer than others. Collection will take place over a longer period than usual. We thank you in advance for your patience.
Don't think you'll be finished before collection begins? Don't worry:
- Put what's ready on the path.
- If the collection processes before you’re complete done, it will be possible to contact Public Works to evaluate what to do next.
Compost
A major cleanup of the fridge and freezer is in order.
Remember to put expired food in the brown bins (compost) - garbage is so 2010!
To find out what goes in the brown bins, go to our brown bin page.
If you have any questions about what can be kept and what should be thrown away, don't hesitate to consult the following page from the Government of Canada: https://inspection.canada.ca/food-safety-for-consumers/fact-sheets/food-handling/emergency/eng/1331578972167/1331579901110
Garbage
Garbage collection follows its usual schedule. Please visit this page to access the full calendar.
We do understand that, with the flooding experienced by many as a result of the power outages, as well as other forms of housekeeping required since last Wednesday, the black bins may already be well stocked.
However, it is impossible to increase the collection frequency at this time.
Don't worry, we have a solution for you: the City is offering you the opportunity to bring your surplus to a container located at Public Works (1875 Bédard Avenue). This container will be accessible 24 hours a day starting at noon on Tuesday, April 11. You will find the container in the back of the parking lot.
