Movies in the Parks!
One of the characteristics of Saint-Lazare is that it covers a vast territory of over 67 km². By comparison, Saint-Lazare is larger than Blainville (55.5 km²) and Repentigny (61.23 km²), which are three to four times more numerous. Our beautiful population is therefore spread out, and it's not always instinctive for some to travel to the village core to take part in sports and leisure activities.
Well aware of this reality, the dynamic team at the Service des loisirs et de la vie communautaire has set itself a new challenge for summer 2024: to offer family activities in several of the city's parks. This is how open-air cinema came about.
During the month of July, three films, all Quebec or Canadian creations, were shown in the following parks: Parc Grand-Pré (to the east), Parc des Abeilles (to the south) and Parc Saddlebrook (to the northwest). On these occasions, the public was offered free popcorn and sweets, much to the delight of young and old alike.
The Service des loisirs et de la vie communautaire team is delighted with this first experience, during which more than 200 people turned out on each occasion. For 2025, the team hopes to bring back open-air cinema, but is also cooking up a few surprises that it is keeping secret for the time being. Be on the lookout for their next initiatives!
