Every year, the Saint-Lazare fire department invites young students to spend a day with the firefighters as part of the Pompier d’un jour, an initiative launched in 2006.

The aim of the day is to inspire young people to consider a career as a firefighter, and to help them discover the many facets of the profession.

On Thursday, October 24, five students from Auclair, Birchwood, Les Étriers, Evergreen and Forest Hill Senior elementary schools had the chance to take part in this unique experience.

The participants had the opportunity to travel around the city aboard the ladder truck, learn more about the workings of the profession, discover the various equipment used during interventions, handle tools such as portable extinguishers, share supper with the team, and attend a fire simulation.
