Jardinothèque
In the spirit of sharing and exchange, the Saint-Lazare library invites you to the third edition of its Jardinothèque. This year, in addition to offering a wide variety of flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables, we've added ancestral seeds. Come and rediscover these seeds that have adapted to the local climate and endured over time.
This project aims to:
- Promote and share the knowledge regarding our horticultural heritage
- Develop biodiversity in urban areas
- Transmit the passion and the know-how
- Disseminate and preserve our local species
Escape from industrialization for a moment by reconnecting with peasant seeds, and thus promote cultivated biodiversity.
Who can benefit from the Jardinothèque?
All library members (residents and non-residents) have access to this service ( Saint-Lazare Access Card required).
How to benefit from the Jardinothèque?
- Go to the Jardinothèque section of the library;
- Select the seed packet(s) you want;
- Go to the circulation desk (with your Saint-Lazare Access Card in hand)
- Register your selected items – not to return them, like books, but to allow us to maintain our inventory;
- Plant everything (each envelope will contain instructions as to the planting of the seed, as well as the care to be provided for its growth);
- Take advantage of a good harvest and gardening season;
- Donate seedlings the following season, following your harvest (on a voluntary basis).
Limit
You are allowed to take a maximum of three (3) seed envelopes per day. This restriction is primarily intended to ensure balanced and equitable distribution to the entire population, while allowing you to take full advantage of our organic seeds.
Training Evenings
Training evenings will be offered at the library throughout the year to support users in their adventure.
The information concerning these special evenings will be published on our Activities Calendar and throughout our various communication channels.

Lire et faire lire Program
Lire et faire lire is a true form of active citizenship!
The association offers an intergenerational reading program through its local branches across Quebec. The simplicity of the program is what makes it truly appealing. During the school year, seniors volunteer to read to children in one of their local schools once a week. Each volunteer reader is assigned his/her own group of 2 to 5 preschool children, kindergarten children, 1st graders or 2nd graders (ages 4 to 8).
