Saint-Lazare (Québec), May 18, 2010
In the spring of 2009, the Fire Department encountered several major
irregularities during its inspection of the Town Hall and its offices
where nearly thirty municipal employees presently work. More than 35
years ago, the Town Hall moved into the former Immaculée Conception
elementary School and numerous changes were made over those years, such
as the addition of temporary buildings or “trailers”. As a result, the
Town Hall no longer conforms to the standards provided in the National
Building Code (NFCC 95) and the National Fire Code nor does it meet the
minimum safety requirements set out in the Public Buildings Safety Act
(R.S.Q., c. S-3). According to those standards, the Town Hall and its
trailers should have a total surface area of 10,340 sq. ft. instead of
the present 6,852 sq. ft., which translates into a deficit of 3,758 sq. feet or 57%.
Moving and reorganizing from June to the end of August 2010
After having considered several relocation scenarios, the Town chose the
less expensive and most feasible one in the short term while taking into
account its citizens services, the operational priorities of its
departments and the well-being of its employees. A three-year lease was
signed for the rental of office space in the new Complexe professionnel
Saint-Lazare located at 1967 Chemin Sainte-Angélique
(across from the Town Hall). This new location provides high-quality office space,
conference rooms for meetings with various parties, a ramp and an
elevator for the disabled and a parking lot at the back.
First, Technical Services and the Urban Planning and Environment
Department will move into their new facilities at the Centre
professionnel Saint-Lazare located at 1967 Chemin Sainte-Angélique
(across from the Town hall) and, second, the Town hall will undergo
changes to ensure its compliance. The administrative services will move
to the basement and control measures will be introduced.
Interrupted, slower or disrupted services from June 4 to 15
Residents may expect temporary interruptions, slowdowns and disruptions
in communications such as the telephone service, voice-mail and e-mail,
and particularly in the issuing of permits.
Issuing of permits
Since the Urban Planning and Environment Department must have access to
property files to issue a permit and since thousands of files will be in
the process of being moved to the new facility, there will be delays in
the issuing of permits between June 4 and 15. So plan accordingly!
Plan ahead and request your permit before June 1
Do you need a permit? Make sure you submit your request before June 1!
Holding a garage sale? Need a swimming pool fill-in? Planning
renovations of $1,500 or more? Want to cut down a tree? Avoid surprises
and, most of all, delays!
Completion of work
The work should be completed at the end of August 2010.
