Saint-Lazare (Québec), June 2, 2010
Despite the lift of the fire ban, the danger of a forest fire remains
moderate. It is therefore essential that residents remain cautious
especially when handling smokers’ articles. The majority of forest fires
currently raging in Quebec have been cause by human neglect: camp fires
not properly put out, cigarette butts, dry twigs set on fire by sparks,
etc. Note that cigarette butts thrown from a moving vehicle produce
sparks that can also lit forest border fires. Lightning is the lesser
culprit in fires currently raging.
Since 70% of Saint-Lazare’s territory is forested, we ask you to be
doubly cautious. This caution applies particularly to all trail users
(pedestrian, equestrian, ATV rides, etc.). We would like to remind them
it is forbidden at all times to smoke in trails. The Town also forbids
open air fires at all times, view the details of the by-law at
