The Quebec poison control center is comprised of a specialised team of nurses and doctors trained to deal with emergency situations concerning poisonings. It offers to the public as well as to medical professionals an emergency toll-free telephone service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The nurses and doctors of the poison control center are there to:

 ·  Quickly suggest the proper measures to take when someone has ingested a poison;
 ·  Provide information to health professionals on the effects and treatments of acute intoxications.
 ·  Conduct research;
 ·  Try to prevent intoxications.
