Saint-Lazare (Québec), November 14, 2011
It is on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 starting 7 a.m. that Saint-Lazare residents
who want to get rid of their non-compliant containers will be able to do so, in an ecological way, during a special one day collection organised by the Town.
Indeed, starting in 2012, only the rolling bins equipped with a European grip will be accepted because the garbage collection will be completely automated.
Residents are invited to place their empty containers by the roadside, either after 8 p.m. on Monday, November 28th or before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011. Even if this special collection will take place on the same day as recycling day, the recycling and the containers will not necessarily be collected at the same time. Only one single truck is assigned to the special collection, the collection could therefore continue late in the evening, considering the extent of the territory to be covered. We therefore ask you to wait until Wednesday, November 30th before contacting the municipal garage at 450-424-8000 ext. 250 and reporting that your containers have not been picked up.
Containers will be brought to a sorting centre to be recycled.
We wish to remind residents that there are numerous ways to reuse your galvanized containers, plastic trash cans with or without wheels. They can, among other things, serve:
- to store cans and returnable plastic bottles. For more convenience, line the container with a compostable plastic bag;
- to store dead leaves in the fall to be later used in the spring in the backyard composter as brown (carbon) matter;
- to store gardening tools, sports articles, toys, seasonal articles, snow fences and plastic driveway markers, etc.
- to store your pool accessories and vacuum hose;
- as a rainwater barrel. Replace the lid with a fine wire netting (mosquito style net) and install it under the gutter. Recuperated water can serve to wash your car, water your flowerbeds, etc.
- certain galvanised containers may also serve to smoke fish and meat;
- bring them to your cottage, sell them or give them away.
For more information on this special collection, please contact the municipal garage at 450-424-8000 ext. 250.
