Cleaning of the septic tank

In accordance with the regulation concerning waste water disposal systems for isolated dwellings,
Q-2, r.22 (art. 13), residents must emptied their septic tank at least once every two (2) years.

Proof of cleaning
Residents must send their proof of cleaning before December 31.

Inspection of the tank (prior to October 31)
Residents may ask for an inspection of their tank in order to determinate if a cleaning is necessary by filling this form.

The tank has to be emptied when the thickness of the layer of scum is equal to or greater than
12 centimetres or when the thickness of the layer of sediment is equal to or greater than 30 centimetres.

Warning: If the thickness of scum and sediment measured are lower than the maximum allowed by the law, the obligation to empty the tank will be postponed to the following year, at which time residents will again have the choice between emptying or inspecting. The inspection can be repeated year after year until levels are reached to justify the tank be emptied.

However, if the thickness of scum and sediment measured are higher than the maximum allowed by the law, residents should empty their tank immediately.
