The Great escape
Prepare and practice your plan
Did you know that you have less than 3 minutes to get out of a burning residence? That’s how quickly the smoke takes to invade your home!
These valuable minutes include:
1. The time the smoke alarm detects the smoke
2. The time it sounds
3. And wakes you up.
So you don’t have much time left to evacuate!
Each year, the Great Escape event, which is organised as part of the National fire prevention week, encourages families to practice their fire drill. But any day of the year (and as often as possible) is a good time to practice it.
It is simple:
- Draw your evacuation plan
- Trigger your smoke detectors
- Find the closest exit
- Gather at your meeting point
