Change time, change the battery!
The Fire Department invites residents to verify the good functioning of their smoke alarms and to change their batteries at changeover dates.
For more information related to smoke detectors, consult the ministère de la Sécurité publique website. Take note the municipal By-Law requires a building owner to install and maintain fire alarms on every floor of an inhabited building, including basement. Smoke detectors must be permanently connected to an electrical circuit and also be fitted with a BATTERY as a back-up source of electricity during power outages. In addition, all smoke detectors must be continuously maintained in working order. They must be replaced if defective or if they have been in use for MORE THAN 10 YEARS from the date of manufacture. For more information, contact the service de sécurité incendie. |
