EASTERN TOWNSHIPS AND MONTÉRÉGIE AREA

For the last 10 years, more than a 1000 deer have been annually involved in road collisions in the Eastern Township and Montérégie regions. The ever-increasing feeding sites bordering trails are no strangers to these numerous road collisions. This activity is at the source of numerous citizen complaints that are seeing their edges, ornamental plants and farmed lands destroyed – a direct consequence of artificial feeding. Feeding deer may seem like a legitimate activity, but the food is inadequate when absorbed in large quantities. The animals can become sick and even die from artificial feeding. In addition to attracting deer outside their natural feeding grounds and modifying their behaviour, this practice encourages animals to feed in the “same plate” which increases chances of transmitting diseases and parasites amongst the herd.

The wildlife and natural resources ministry strongly condemns this practice. Please forward this message to as many people to make them aware of the dangers.
