SAINT-LAZARE (Québec), July 5, 2010
A bear was seen a few times in the last days on the Saint-Lazare territory We encourage residents not to approach, feed or frighten the animal. We invite the population to remain vigilant, by not leaving garbage, food or bird feeders in its reach. It is possible that the population see it over the next week.
We would also like to remind the population that Saint-Lazare, which is far from being a “concrete downtown”, spreads over a mainly forested area of 67 km². Wildlife, including moose, deer, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and bears also share our territory and are an integral part of our reality. Usually discreet, it is possible, occasionally, that some of these animals end-up in a residential area. If their passage is not disrupted, the animal will usually move on.
Wildlife protection is keeping an eye on the file but has no intention of taking extraordinary measures neither to find the animal nor to relocate it, unless a danger is eminent. Unless the animal stands still in a tree or wanders for a long time in the same location, we ask the population not to contact the Wildlife protection agency.
More info to come.
